56 The 1710 birth date is based on a family tree prepared by Grace Laughton (John's g grand daughter) . At the time, James' (his son) birthdate was quoted as 1770. As James' birthdate has been confirmed at 1777, 1717 is more likely if it was based on the fact that John was 60 when James was born. Laughton, John (I49)

57 The birthdate comes from his gravestone inscription. Whilst it is possible that he was born and christened on the same day, it is more likely that the date quoted as the christening date is actually the birthdate. It is unclear from the microfilm, as this appears to be of a transcript, rather than the original parish register. I beleive that the parish register was destroyed by fire in 1805. Laughton, James (I41)

58 There is a J Laughton listed in the London Times 22 Sep 1819 as 'earthenware dealer, Liverpool' - Our James perhaps? (probably not) Laughton, James (I41)

59 When Jane married James Laughton, she used her maiden name, possibly indicating that she hadn't been married before and thereforre Mariane Jane would have been born out of wedlock. Family: / Jane Looney (F144)
